DJ Cleo scowls at Zakes Bantwini for criticizing him on social media regarding his SAMA 30 performance.
Zakes Bantwini offered an apology to DJ Cleo following his disappointment with Cleo’s setlist at the South African Music Awards 2024.
Bantwini first commended the 30th annual SAMAs and lauded Cleo’s mix, yet he expressed worries regarding the omission of Durban-Kwaito tracks.
The Grammy award-winning DJ expressed, ‘I truly liked the 30-year Kwaito tribute by DJ Cleo, but I felt let down that the Durban-Kwaito music period was not sufficiently featured in the mix.’
DJ Cleo took to Twitter to say, ‘My brother, I love you and your moves and have always supported you.’ I have never tweeted or made any negative remarks about you. You have my number and you are aware that SAMAs are highly political and not my event or platform. Let’s set an example for the youth and steer clear of social media outbursts.
Recognising Cleo’s reply, Zakes expressed regret, stating, ‘I’m sorry if my earlier tweet upset you.’ My enthusiasm for music motivated my comment. You are correct; I ought to have contacted you directly. I sincerely apologize.
The exchange initiated a wider conversation among fans, with many sharing their opinions on the interaction.
I apologize if my previous tweet offended you. My comment was driven by my passion for music. You are right; I should have reached out directly. Please accept my sincere apology. 🙏🏿 https://t.co/2lM6O420l1
