It has been nearly a year since UK grime legend Skepta revealed his upcoming album, Knife and Fork. This will mark his sixth studio album and his first rap project since the 2020 collaboration with Chip and Young Adz, titled Insomnia. The last solo release in the genre from Skepta was in 2019 with Ignorance is Bliss. While he has been actively producing remarkable work in the house music scene with several standalone tracks, the anticipation for Big Smoke is building, and we eagerly await its arrival. Regrettably, a specific release date has yet to be disclosed, leading us to speculate that the album may drop early next year.
Nonetheless, we remain hopeful for its release before the conclusion of 2024, as there are still a few weeks left in the year. In the meantime, Skepta has kept his audience engaged with four, possibly five, promotional singles since the announcement of the album title. The journey began with “Jangrova,” featuring Idris Elba, Tribal Mark, and ODUMODUBLVCK. This was followed by “Gas Me Up (Diligent),” “Tony Montana,” “Miss Independent,” and “Why Lie?” featuring Flo Milli. The latest addition, “Alpha Omega,” showcases impressive production from trap legend Lex Luger. The title references the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, symbolizing Skepta’s enduring presence in the music industry, signifying that he has been here from the beginning and will continue to be a dominant force until the end, driven by his relentless work ethic and ambition to be the best.
