Kodak Black – Burn It Up

kodak black trill bill

Kodak Black’s most recent mixtape, Trill Bill, was launched on Friday. The project embodies the quintessential Kodak Black style, featuring recurring motifs of wealth, substance use, sexuality, and aggression. However, it is set against an unexpectedly serene, almost hazy, mid-tempo backdrop. A notable example is “Burn It Up,” which stands out as one of the stronger tracks on the mixtape. The production by Ryan Prieur is subtle, reminiscent of sounds typically associated with a Cash Cobain project. In this sense, it diverges from Kodak Black’s usual musical approach. Nevertheless, the lyrics maintain the straightforwardness characteristic of the controversial Florida artist, blending his signature bravado with street narratives once again.

On this track, Kodak Black exhibits a sense of energy (as much as he can muster), with the catchy hook featuring the phrases “turn it up” and “burn a n***a up.” The verse includes clever lines, such as “all black can’t see nothing, so they say it was Darth Vader,” which stands out. At just over two and a half minutes, the track is concise and does not overextend its appeal, showcasing a commendable performance from Kodak. Given his prolific nature, not every release resonates, but this particular track has the potential to make an impact. Listen to “Burn It Up” below and consider giving Trill Bill a chance if you find the preview appealing.
