While anticipation continues for the release of The Fall Off, J. Cole made a noteworthy move last night. The esteemed rapper and producer from North Carolina has made his debut mixtape, The Come Up Mixtape Vol. 1, available on streaming platforms. Originally released in May 2007, this mixtape is one of three significant projects that preceded his first studio album, Cole World: The Sideline Story. The release of this tape coincides with the launch of his new audio series, Inevitable, which he announced will consist of ten episodes, offering intriguing behind-the-scenes insights into his career leading up to the 2014 album, Forest Hills Drive.

Currently, fans are speculating the potential release of all three foundational mixtapes. This speculation is fueled by the simultaneous release of The Come Up and the first episode of the series, which shares its title with the mixtape. If this speculation holds true, fans can expect The Warm Up on November 22 and Friday Night Lights on November 27. This prospect is certainly exciting, but for the moment, we are revisiting one of J. Cole’s early standout tracks, “Simba.” In this song, he expresses his ambition and determination, comparing himself to Simba from The Lion King, as he positions himself as the rightful heir to the rap throne, which he believes is held by his future mentor, JAY-Z. Overall, it serves as a motivational anthem and provides an early glimpse into the evolution of his writing and flow.
