SAMA ignores De Mthuda

De Mthuda, whose real name is Mthuthuzeli Gift Khoza, was omitted from his performance at the South African Music Awards 2024.

After several rehearsals, the producer was disregarded by the award ceremony because of a significant production mistake.

A statement from the musician’s team noted, ‘SAMAs mishandled De Mthuda’s rendition of his latest summer anthem Diwa Kae.’ ”

According to Zimoja, De Mthuda was invited to the event by RiSA and Sjula D Productions, who coordinated behind the scenes.

He consented to showcase his new release, which boasts a cast of stars like Kabza De Small, Young Stunna, McKenzie, MKeyz, and Mthunzi. According to his manager Thabiso Khati, the SAMAs would have marked the first public performance of this track.

The production team eventually requested him to stay in the car and they would come to get him when it was time. The reason for this was that no waiting area for artists had been made available. Surprisingly, the producers went ahead and filmed the performance with solely the featured artists, entirely excluding De Mthuda,’ Khati remarked.

Thabiso asked, ‘How can you present a De Mthuda performance without his presence on stage?’

The production company has issued an apology to the music producer, but he and his team are addressing the situation.

This event brings up significant issues regarding the organisation and professionalism of the SAMA Awards production.
